Check Engine Light Diagnosis & Repair

A check engine light tells you your vehicle has detected a problem. It does not necessarily tell you which part needs to be replaced.

That's where proper diagnosis matters.

Crown Automotive provides check engine light diagnostics in Meridian, Idaho, serving Boise and communities throughout the Treasure Valley.

Our ASE-certified technicians diagnose solid and flashing check engine lights, drivability concerns and electrical problems on all makes and models.

We Diagnose More Than a Trouble Code

A diagnostic trouble code gives a technician information about the system where the vehicle detected a problem.

But a code alone isn't always a diagnosis.

Multiple problems can sometimes trigger the same code, which is why replacing whatever part is named in an internet search or basic code scan can lead to unnecessary repairs.

Crown focuses on determining the actual cause of the problem before recommending how to repair it.

Solid or Flashing Check Engine Light

Crown can diagnose both solid and flashing check engine lights.

A check engine light may be accompanied by symptoms such as:

  • Rough idle

  • Engine misfires

  • Hesitation

  • Reduced power

  • Hard starting

  • Stalling

  • Poor fuel economy

  • Unusual engine performance

  • Shifting or drivability changes

If the light is flashing or your vehicle is running significantly differently than normal, the problem deserves prompt attention.

Electrical Diagnostics

Yes — Crown also diagnoses automotive electrical problems.

Modern vehicles rely heavily on computers, sensors, wiring and electronic modules, so an electrical fault can sometimes create symptoms that appear mechanical.

Our experience allows us to look at the whole system rather than simply replacing a part because a fault code mentions it.

25 Years of Diagnostic Experience

Crown Automotive's approach is backed by approximately 25 years of technician experience and ASE certification.

Our team works on:

  • Domestic vehicles

  • Asian vehicles

  • European vehicles

  • Diesel vehicles

  • All makes and models

Crown has particular experience with Subaru vehicles and diesel trucks.

You Stay in Control of the Repair

Once we identify the problem, you'll receive an explanation of the findings and repair options.

An estimate is provided before authorized work begins.

If additional problems are found, we'll contact you, explain the options and wait for your authorization.

No additional repair is performed without customer approval.

Diagnostic Fees

Diagnostic work and repair labor are generally separate because diagnosing a problem requires technician time and testing.

However, if diagnosis requires parts to be removed and those same parts must also be removed to perform the authorized repair, Crown does not charge the customer twice for that same removal labor.
